our inspiration story
The phone call came while I was at work. “Hi honey”, she said. “Your grandpa woke up in heaven today”. Words I didn’t expect to hear, while sitting in my office that morning. Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life and remember the imprint he had made on each of us. I realized; I had grown up with the headlines. It was after he was gone that the rest of the story was told. Details about my grandfather’s life brought forward. Now it was too late to question him further. I left the celebration with a newfound appreciation for my grandfather’s choices, humor, faith, lessons taught and his integrity. Yet, disappointed in the knowledge there were more stories I didn’t know, before he passed on.
These bittersweet moments inspired our passion to help families preserved their legacy of stories for their present and future generations.
After the passing of my grandfather, my grandmother lived out her dream to write and publish a book. This one was her best. Now in her eighties, she enrolled in a writing course at the local community college with intention to craft her story. Gifting me her book, I discovered a woman I had not known. For the first time, embraced her as a daughter, a sister, a growing young girl. She wrote of the challenges of life in the 1930’s during the Depression. She fondly recounted falling in love, becoming a bride, a mother and then a widow. Some of her stories I grew up knowing, but now, they weren’t headlines, she filled in the details. Her memoirs fill pages with the choices, lessons, emotions and how she dealt with tragedy, triumph, joy, hobbies, pursuits and talents, disappointments, permeated with her humor. Her memoirs are a window into her purpose and passions as a woman, mother, grandmother. She provided her family a written legacy of life as she viewed it, lived it and where she put her deepest trust. She has paid forward a priceless legacy, her moments of impact, and wisdom for us to cherish for generations.
